Tour Description

In this winter’s weekend ride, we will explore the historic region of Kynouria . Starting our ride from Athens, we will reach the foothills of Mount Parnonas (Kronos’ Holy Moountain). Following provincial roads of the Eastern side of Parnonas we will ride through picturesque villages towards the Monastery of Elona, one of the most impressive built landmarks of the region.

On our way back on Sunday, we will visit the village Kosmas, known as the “balcony of Kynouria”, and ride the West side of Parnonas towards Tripoli and then use the National road to Athens.

This ride circles the largest mountain of the Peloponnese passing through unique landscapes, stone-built villages, natural springs along the route and also gives us the opportunity to taste local traditional cuisine using the famous “Tsakoniki” eggplant.

Monastery of Elona: “Hung” on the red Parnonas’ red rock, a monastery of historic significance.
Leonidio: traditional settlement and capital of the municipality of South Kynouria. The vertical rock that almost covers this town is known to climbers around the world.
Kosmas: Stone-built village at 1150m altitude on mount Parnonas.
Kayres: Settlement known from antiquity, that gave the name to the known statues “Karyatides” of the Acropolis of Athens.

All our tours and routes can be altered depending on weather conditions having as first priority the safety of the group.

DIFFICULTY: LEVEL 2

These routes usually appear in multi-day tours, and in asphalt-paved roads in good condition. During these tours, however, we may also have to travel on dirt roads or at high altitudes with varying weather conditions for a few days (2 or 3). Some routes entail more turns and it is therefore important that riders should have driving experience in such conditions.
