3-DAY TOUR “FAR WEST OF PELOPONNESE”

Tour Description

Riding through the Peloponnesian countryside, the first day we head west and pass through Ancient Olympia which was a major Panhellenic religious site of Greece. A stop there to feel the aura of 2700 years is a must before we reach our “basecamp”, Kyparissia. From there the second day, we will explore the entire Messinian coast. First stop Maniaki village which was the site of a fierce battle between the troops of Papaflessas and the Egyptian army of Ibrahim Pasha. A battle lost, but still remembered for the heroism of no more than 500 Greeks, that held more than 6000 enemies. Then we will visit Gialova and see the famous beach “Voidokilia”. Koroni will be the last stop of the day with a visit to the Venetian castle. Following the west coast of the Messinian gulf we will return to Kyparissia. The third day, we head North, following initially the Ionian coastline. Ride through the Foloi oak forest and stop at the ancient site of Elis, the real birthplace of the Olympic Games. Continuing our ride North we will reach the National park of Strofilia, a unique ecosystem. The trip is a tour through landscapes of unique beauty, along the West coast of Peloponnese, in combination with visits of ancient and more recent historical sites in the area. We will ride through picturesque villages, and taste traditional cuisine.

DIFFICULTY: LEVEL 2

These routes usually appear in multi-day tours, and in asphalt-paved roads in good condition. During these tours, however, we may also have to travel on dirt roads or at high altitudes with varying weather conditions for a few days (2 or 3). Some routes entail more turns and it is therefore important that riders should have driving experience in such conditions.
